Organization Types

Organization types refer to groups of Organizations that are used to control how Organizations can view and interact with other Organizations. Only Platform Admins can see Organization types.

Ecosystem Administrators can create up to 20 types to determine the visibility and privacy shared between organisations (can be raised by Support if necessary).

Organization

An Organization is a group of unique users and can be used to represent a team, department, legal entity or brand.

The Platform Owner may assigns the role of Organization Administrator to a user within each Organization who can then manage the activities of the users within the Organization.

User Role

 Roles

A User can only belong to one organization and has a set of roles assigned.

These roles determine what they can do, for example, create data products to publish on the Exchange.

Subscription Plans

Plans

Subscriptions

Subscription Plans are applied to a Product by a User with the appropriate Role or Share Permission.

They defines how Assets within a Product can be used, by whom, how long they can be used for and if there are any legal Terms and Conditions that need to be accepted before the Subscription Plan can apply.

Data Asset

Asset

An Asset is a unit of data that can be managed, distributed and consumed by users.

An Asset can be consumed directly or added to one or more Products for easy distribution.

Data Product

Product

A Data Product delivers a value proposition to a target persona, combined with the relevant packaging, permissions and visibility:

  • Packaging - Supports the discovery and assessment of a Product by the target persona.

  • Permissions - Controls access and use of a Product

  • Visibility - Determines where the Product can be discovered.

Permissions are enforced by the application of a Subscription Plan and/or a Share Permission.

A Product can contain no assets or many Assets.

Connector

A Connector uses secure credentials to reach out to a specified source location, it receives data from it, and then it copied that data onto the Platform.

Data Share

Databricks share

Delta share

A Databricks share is created using Delta Sharing, which is an open protocol for secure data sharing across different platforms, including non-Databricks systems.

A 'Databricks-to-Databricks share' allows users to share data from their Unity Catalog-enabled workspace with other users who have a Unity-Catalog enabled workspace, using a unique sharing identifier.

A 'Databricks open share' allows users to share this data to any platform that supports open sharing using a credential file and activation link.

Share Permission

Permission

A Share Permission for a specific Product or Asst can be allocated to another User by another User who has the appropriate Role to manage the Product or Asset.

Spaces

Spaces are secure, on-demand data analytics environments that allow you to easily bring tools, people and data together.

The secure, collaborative access to data products and assets is provided via cloud compute resources and a collection of tools including Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, HUE and Jupyter Notebooks.

Export

For the export of data products or assets to user defined connectors or desktop.

Export is subject to permissions and can be configured through choices relating the target, format and schedule for delivery.

Code Assets

Enabling the packaging of code which can be automated via task definition and scheduled execution to create and update assets.
